1948 Indian Chief Bonneville restored by Legend Otto Link With the help of gentleman like Bill Lockett and Lester Fluck, this was Otto Link’s last restoration. He mentioned it in a 1978 article we have in our local history museum. Many people already know the story and silly response….when an interviewer asked Otto why he painted most of his bikes 1939 World’s Fair Colorway, he answered I keep them in my barn and when I bring one out, my wife thinks I only have one bike. Very funny, but Otto was a real lifer. In 1939 he was already President of the Queen City Club of Allentown Pa, he had raced flat track and had a dealership in Coopersburg PA. In his dealership he had a private Indian room, with thousands of old parts. He would buy out all the old stock of the Indian dealers and keep them for future builds. The bike is very nice, I did send the Mag out to Mark’s Magneto with no success, was told it was great and when I got it, it didn’t have enough spark to start the bike. Frustrated I put a constant spark gizmo on the bike and it would start right up. So the one thing the new buyer will need to do is get the magneto magnets re-charged. Hell maybe even send it to Mark’s Magneto and maybe they will cover it, seeing as I already threw away $600. Other than that the bike was restored in 1978 and hardly ridden. Went from dry basement to dry basement, with very little hours on it. When I bought it about 3 years ago, I put under 200 miles on it. No issues, doesn’t smoke, everything works as it should. Great bike rides beautifully. You can come see it in Quakertown PA , call us and set up a time to view. I would not be selling it, but health and family have a need for the funds.
