1952 Matchless G80S - Not BSA Triumph Norton

Price:
$4,400
Summary:
Used 1952
Location:
Austin, TX
Description:

Brought over by me from Australia in 2007, it is in extremely roadworthy condition, and rather initial. Work done on it while under my ownership included rebuilding of leading end, a front fork rebuild using NOS fork legs and brand-new seals, and complete re-wiring of whole bike with new British wiring loom. Bike got an amateur cosmetic restoration long prior to my ownership, and what I believe was a lacquer repaint. Sheet metal is really great, but a repair service (revealed) to the rear fender hinge was made years ago that could be enhanced upon. Aside from the normal paint chips and scratches due to use, the restoration has held up fairly well. Striping and various decals are applied over the paint, unclear over. Chrome is in good shape, with silencer new a couple of years back. Exhaust header pipeline is older, but still looks fine. Rims are perfect, and wheels were re-laced with stainless steel spokes several years earlier. Engine castings are really nice, with no proof of damage or repair works, There are no damaged fins on head or cylinder, and the engine number validates that it belongs to this 1952 G80S. Bike was fitted with a Amal Monobloc device years back, changing the original side floater. Tank is in really great condition inside and out and showcases the plated Ewarts petcocks, both of which are just recently re-corked and really great.] Right seat behaves, with no rips or splits. Mechanically, the bike is in great order. Tickle the Amal, and she starts quickly making use of the compression release and settles into an idle nicely. On the roadway, the bike trips real and straight, and the Burman gearbox moves cleanly and runs quietly. All electrics work, including horn, which is a copy of the Lucas Altette, and the magneto is extremely strong. To my understanding, products not initial to the bike is the combination high/low beam and horn button, ammeter, and the tire pump, which is a nice recreation. Smith chronometric speedo is initial, runs properly, as does the odometer. Mileage may or not be correct, as I have actually not owned the bike given that new. This is a really original and complete G80S that must give its owner many years of riding satisfaction, as is, or a prospect for a frame-up restoration. Texas title is clear and in my name, and the bike is presently checked and registered.
