Description:
This is a recommissioned, turn-key late ‘67 Honda 305 scrambler. It has a clear Indiana title in my name. It is titled as a ‘68, which was common practice when sold. Mileage is exempt, and notary is NOT necessary for transfer. It sat in a garage for 40 years, belonged to a friend’s neighbor. Last plated in ‘81. I got it going, top end was a little noisy so I went through it. New Wiseco pistons, cam chain & idler wheel, cam bearings, and lapped in the valves. Carb & fuel tap cleaned & new seals, new air filters & rubber boots, brake shoes, tires, all cables except rear brake. Also changed fork seals and later found new gaiters which are included. Cleaned out the sludge trap which wasn’t too bad. It starts easy, runs, rides & stops well. PO had chopped the muffler & put baffles in, which probably have some loose rust, as I can hear a faint clanking in the pipes, and with an occasional pop on the overrun, gives the bike some rowdy character, without being obnoxiously loud. Not the typical Japanese “appliance” sound. New pair of baffles included as well, and a Clymer & Bill Silver manual. Also has new chain & sprockets, rear is 32t so it will sustain 55-60mph without too much strain. Chain guard is an expensive crack-free nos piece with a rattle can paint job.This would be a good bike for someone without extensive mechanical skill who wants an actual classic instead of a retro. I’m not a Honda enthusiast, mostly worked on 2 strokes, British & European bikes over the years. Was compelled to rescue this one & reconnect with my first bike from decades ago, which, in retrospect, I moved on from pretty quick. Have put a few hundred trouble free miles on his bike, but need the space & money, so I’m starting the bid at much less than I have in it. The term “patina” is over used, but an apt descriptor in this case. Pretty crusty but complete & reliable. Definitely a survivor.
