This is for a 1971 Maico 501 2-stroke dirt bike. I purchased it from the 2nd owner who had actually had it because 1981This was the very first year on this design. RARE. It has something difficult to obtain on this bike: Street Legal Title! I hate to sell it but need to move out of state unexpectedly.Does not have any lights, signals, mirrors or electrical. If you desire to include these, it's up to the new owner. It looks like it had an amateur restoration before it was kept for several years. Tires are new-looking but more than 10 yrs old so have some weather cracking. The top and bottom ends were apparently reconstructed and a brand-new clutch center from a 400 (?) was set up as they couldn't discover a 501 center, according to the previous owner. I've just ridden it down the block and back. Begins, runs but requires carb cleaned and an extensive going-over (entire bike). It's frightening and really loud quickly! Idles a little high, has actually aftermarket cable televisions and decompression release. I 'd probably install some much better ones. The chain and sprocket appear to be in good condition, with some surface area rust. Undoubtedly, it has been repainted over the initial red and was an amateur task. Rear brake pedal appears to be aftermarket. It appears like the frame may have been repaired by the side stand which I comprehend is usual on these as the side stand is uncomfortable and long. The seat cover has a couple of holes, see photos. The front rim is initial I believe. It's an Akront rim. The rear resemble a DID. When he got the bike, the previous owner states it was on there. He believed it was original but I'm unsure.
