This 1974 Norton Commando 850 is finished in black with gold graphics andpowered by an overbored 828cc parallel twin that is said to have received atop-end overhaul under previous ownership. Equipment includes a four-speedgearbox, a two-up seat, a two-into-two exhaust system, a front disc brake, 19″wire-spoke wheels, and both center and side stands. The motorcycle was acquiredby the seller in 2022, reportedly from the third owner and subsequentmaintenance is said to have included synchronizing the twin Amal carburetors,changing the engine oil and transmission fluid, adjusting the timing, points,and valves, and replacing the battery, air cleaner, and rubber air cleanerboots. This Commando 850 is now offered with a clean Colorado title in theseller’s name.The bodywork is finished in black with faded gold graphics over ablack-finished double-cradle frame. Features include a polished chain guard,stainless-steel fenders, and both center and side stands as well as a two-upseat. Photos show scratches and scuffs on the fuel tank and the side panels.Wire-spoke 19″ wheels wear a mixed set of Avon and Dunlop tires that theseller states should be replaced due to age and cracking. Suspension consistsof a conventional fork in addition to dual shocks mounted to the swingarm.Stopping power is provided by a single disc brake with a Norton-Lockheedcaliper up front and a drum brake at the rear.The handlebar carries a single mirror on the left and is mounted aft ofSmiths instrumentation that consists of a 150-mph speedometer and 9k-rpmtachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 30k miles.The air-cooled overbored 828cc parallel twin is equipped with atwo-into-two exhaust system, and it reportedly received a top-end overhaulunder prior ownership that included a valve job with replacement guides as wellas replacement pistons and rings. The seller states that the twin Amalcarburetors were overhauled during previous ownership and that work performedunder previous ownership included changing the oil, synchronizing thecarburetors, adjusting the timing, points, and valves, and replacing thebattery, air cleaner, and rubber air cleaner boots, and reserve petcock.The number 324175 stamped on the engine block matches the number stampedon the manufacturer plate, a photo of which can be viewed in the gallery.Power is sent to the rear wheel through a four-speed gearbox that isshifted on the right and a drive chain. The seller states that the transmissionfluid was changed under previous ownership.
