Up for your consideration is a rare very low VIN # 00282 matching engine # 000296 XXXX Kawasaki KZ1000 built in the first week of production of the first KZ1000 model in 1976. This is the lowest VIN number KZ1000 that I've ever seen.Released in 1976 as a 1977 model, the Kawasaki KZ1000 outdid its already formidable Z1 forebear, and this first-year, early production model is an authentic example of an iconic motorcycle that enjoyed a nearly 30-year run. Kawasaki originally developed its dual-overhead-camshaft 4-stroke with relative secrecy in an operation code-named “New York Steak.” The team, and the end result of the team’s clandestine efforts made its debut with the 1972 Kawasaki 900 Super Four, or Z900, in 1972. Kawasaki touted the Z1 descendant as longer, smoother and better than its predecessor, and the KZ1000 delivered on those promises with a more powerful engine and a host of evolutionary changes. The updated air-cooled DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine packed a heavier crankshaft with a bit more stroke that reduced vibrations and bumped up displacement to just over 1000cc. Mikuni carburetors featured a reworked idle circuit and slightly smaller bore for a more midrange punch. A lighter 4-into-2 exhaust replaced the cumbersome 4-into-4 Z900 setup, and a factory O-ring chain kept the grease in the links. The front disc brake was joined by a rear disc setup for smooth trail braking into the corner entries and fade-free stops from low 12-second 100-plus MPH quarter-mile runs. Longer fork tubes with stiffer springs and a raked-back fork angle joined needle bearings in the slightly lengthened swingarm for more predictable handling and road control. The wider and generously cushioned seat offered more comfort.This bike was completely restored from the frame up for me by George Nash about 8 years ago. Google "George Nash Kawasaki H2 Hybrid" to see some of his other work. I had the top end of the motor built by Fast By Gast in New York. They put in a 1075cc Wiseco piston kit, skimmed the head, re-seated the valves and put in new valve stem seals. The motor has has Dyna coils and pickups and 34 mm Mikuni flat slide carburetors. I have the paperwork from Fast By Gast, it'll go with the bike. New gauges were installed when the motor was done. I have only put 72 miles on it since then. Buchanan Spoke and Rim in Azusa, California re-spoked the wheels with stainless steel spokes and polished the hubs to a mirror like finish. Both brake calipers were rebuilt and new brake shoes installed. Bike has new tires, new chain and sprockets and a new and Kerker pipe. Bike was professionally repainted back to the original Diamond Sky Blue color that it came out with when it was new. The paintwork is flawless. Everything on this bike works as it should. It runs and rides perfectly. I have the original gauges and all the original parts, (some not pictured) so the bike can be put back to original if the new owner chooses to do so. Also included is the actual correct complete original tool kit with the two snap bag, tool tray, owner's manual, assembly manual and the parts catalog. The parts and extras alone are worth $2000. I have a 1972 H2 frame # 00309 in another listing.Title is clear on both and in my name.
