Description:

1979 Honda GL1000, 18,574miles, in perfect condition with Florida TitleInvestment qualitytouring motorcycle, which has been preserved and lightly used for 45 years.First Place Award by theAmerican Gold Wing Association =====================================================================================Note -photos: click on the URL linksbelow the description to view additional photos in the following categories: Overall, Mechanical,Luggage_Seat_Windscreen_Exhaust, June 2016 Bike Show, GL1000 at purchase,Fuel Tank_SidePanels_Electrical_Instruments, Documentation_Decals_Seat_Controls,Detail, Best 80 photosNote - video: click on URL link below the description to view a 5 minute video from cold start to a good run on mountainroad (upload to eBay server failed).======================================================================================This is a significantpiece of motorcycle history. It is the first GoldWingseries that Honda offered as the Standard Tourer motorcycle before Honda added weight andcomplexity – a conversion, which created the Touring motorcycle class to thisday – it was a sound platform for the Tourers that evolved in the latter series.Latter GoldWings lack the charm and simple engineering performance of the Originals. They alsodepreciate, whereas the Originals (in top condition) appreciate in value. Especially so, for the last year of the first series. This example is unique:o Conditionis “Museum Quality” with very few miles (average 420 miles per year).o Period Correct,Samsonite Touring Luggage System with chrome Tri-Bar mounting (lockable, detachable, removable)o ADCOchrome, padded backrest with zippered pocketo Preservedby only two owners and performs flawlessly in every respect.History:1st Owner: 39 years (16kmiles). A professional technician at aGerman, new car dealership in Georgia. Priorto my purchase: he rebuilt the carburetors (Genuine Honda components), replacedthe timing belt with same, adjusted valves, added DynaCoil ignition, integrated electrical connections for heatedclothing, added anon/off headlight switch (hidden behind the housing), added an SAE batterymaintainer connection, and replaced all fluids. The cosmetic conditionshows that both he and I kept it out of the sun and rode in good weather. The mechanical condition shows that both of usmaintained and used the moto in proper form.2nd Owner: 6 years (2kmiles). I am a meticulous motorcycle enthusiast and collector at home in themountains of North Carolina and in Tampa, Florida. Replaced tires with Bridgestone Battlax rubber(3 years ago). After much searching wasfortunate to have found the Samsonite moto bags, the original TriBarmounting system, Samsonite waterproof nylon luggage covers with elasticbanding, Samsonite luggage key, and the brasskey to remove the bags from the mounts, an ADCO backrest, a nicely integrated, small clear windscreen with no scratches, and a premium fork brace. These additions are completely reversible. They add secure space for jackets, etc. as the day warms, keep the center of gravity low for handling, and addcomfort for the rider and the occasional passenger. Those items are included inthe sale as well as an indoor moto cover (in blue), the original Honda ServiceManual from the PO. Located in the topcompartment above the air cleaner are: theoriginal/complete Honda Tool Kit in the Honda cloth roll, and the original 1979GL1000 Owners Manual.====================================================================================Useful Things: an auxiliary USB charging module with voltmeterreadout (OK, but not as accurate as the analog gauge in the instrument panel) ismounted low on the R handlebar to charge phone. There isa mechanical Cruise Control, i.e. friction throttle control on the R throttle grip –this helps in warming the engine to operating temperature without using thechoke too much, keeping the spark plugs clean. It may be used riding on an Interstate Highway to lessen hand fatigue. The headlamp off/on switch located behind the lamp housing is useful when starting/warming/idling the engine to reduce current draw.An interesting detail just discovered: sparefuses are located in a rubber holder tucked in the tray under the top cover. Maintenance: all of the fluids werechanged again three years ago (4T Mobil 10W-40 moto racing oil, Honda oil filter, air filters cleaned, driveshaft splines lubricated with Honda Moly 60 Paste, F/R brake fluid flushed, radiator coolant flushed with XEREX. Thenext owner can consider flushing the brake system and radiator within a year ortwo dependent on use. Storage: the reason(s)that all the systems continue to function perfectly and the cosmetics are sogood (considering the moto is used very little) is because; when stored thecarburetors are drained of ethanol-free gasoline, Marine Sta-Bil added to afull tank of fuel, and an 0.8VDC BatterTender is connected to the Yuasa AGM battery.Observations: the GL is powerful with anice mid-RPM growl (see/hear video,), handles flawlessly due to the lowdrivetrain mass and high-grip, premium tires. I find this motorcycle ispleasing to look at just sitting on the center stand, and a blast to ridebriskly in the mountains. The ride height islow, making the moto easy to saddle up/off, and to accelerate from a stopwithout the drama of killing the engine in traffic. There is no need for reverse gearing as inthe latter models to back out of parking or to place in your garage. I have other classic motorcyclesfrom Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki and state with confidence that the first seriesGL has the best build quality and attention to detail (see the additional photos). In 2019 this GoldWing was awarded FirstPlace by the American Honda GoldWing Association (national event, not a localshow).================================================================================PICKUP LOCATION: Glenville, NC (1 hr from Asheville NC, about2 hrs from Atlanta GA, Knoxville TN, Greenville SC, about 3 hrs from CharlotteNC).COMMUNICATION: I can respond to inquiries for moreinformation and provide additional photos via the message system.PAYMENT: after the deposit, the balance can be sent by electronic deposit. I will date and sign the Florida title over to thebuyer (not with a blank for buyer name), and send withtracking via UPS or USPS. ================================================================================Photos/Video: Click on the following URL links to view the run video and additional photos:Video:https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipO-ycKJM-TmwzfCGfDjuADIj28f4aGIqh8lRG_sHZErvhKXjbQv9R9_NNsDa4DSlA?key=VFhVd1g3SlRWemdDVGo1LXdkVjd1WG5XVllRTDJROverall: https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipOl0We9i-nTjjZl7qMPY6IcegrK-G5BW0C5_UWeMechanical: https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipP2oWLf8MMa-5pFFrPE5A7UB9OyA6dGxSoUuot1Luggage_Seat_Windscreen_Exhaust: https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipPbyufULkTg68ufprg24u3BdkVbtlkKMovJTfp4June 2016 Bike Show: https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipM3v29-gb911w0fJxYrtjSoX8_IcrDsypppQskiGL1000 at purchase 2016: https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipNtfJ1qOfxEy3r6kRsNPy23lDuluGOdKfrBUx0_Fuel Tank_SidePanels_Electrical_Instruments:https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipMs13Rwhr0FGsc7W7L95WBcAEAef3p5iyrCRgLUDocumentation_Decals_Seat_Controls:https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipNEcXlQli0K0CfjtpwVrdZ5OMW6bdbTWIBe7QXuDetails: https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipPKR52dmUaMx-_S4kilOzdYAWIRKOpsoBTKXvvpBest 80: https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipOj7Ab4c-KrUZmp9WNPRotegDQNnDirsLZUfsu9
