Description:
1979 Honda XR 500 fresh restoration. This bike was completely torn down and every piece has been cleaned or repainted, this is a fresh restoration. The frame was done in Dupli Color gloss black and cleared, the tank fenders and side covers were stripped down, refinished and painted the OEM Tahitian red, and cleared with urethane clear at a local body shop, shocks were taken apart cleaned and painted and also cleared with urethane, the motor was sandblasted and painted with high heat Dupli Color high heat, the center section of the motor was painted the OEM dark grey, the side cases and cylinder were done with cast coat aluminum and the whole motor was cleared with high heat clear, the exhaust was stripped down and painted high heat Krylon BBQ black, supposedly 1200 degree? but it has bubbled in a few spots, I went over it a few times now, so it is what it is I guess. It should eventually seal. The rear pipe was fabricated at a local muffler shop, the silencer was fabricated by me, I used 2 & 1/2 pipe, welded adapters to create the shape, it has a half baffle, and fiberglass packing, its pretty loud. The carb was cleaned and new seals put in, the valve covers were resealed, the cylinder cover was resealed, new denso plug, new fuel line and filter, new castrol 10-W-40 oil, fairly new air filter, airbox was fabricated for more air flow to match exhaust, had renthaw handlebars on it, I left them on, new metal mulisha grips, seat was professionally recovered, inside of gas tank looks pretty good for a 33 year old bike, it has minimal light surface rust. I don't like tank Kream so I left it like it was. Has 2 new tires, new rear tube, Still has the wires for the headlight and tail light, they are tucked under the rear seat and under the tank, XR's were not street legal but they had a small headlight and a tail light, and a small speedometer. OEM parts are not cheap so those things were not in the budget for my asking price. The only 3 things that are aftermarket, are the rear fender, the silencer because the OEM muffler was shot, and the front number plate with the headlight. I figured its a dirt bike, why spend crazy money for OEM parts it don't need. The bike normally starts on the first kick, sometimes second or third depending on how cold or warm it is, bike runs great, has plenty of power, pulls hard in fifth gear, still comes up easy in the front if you want it too. The previous owner told me the top end was rebuilt a few years back? so I have no clue wether that's true or not? that's the case with anything you look at. This bike is worth close to $4,000 in excellent condition, very good is $2,660, so I'm not letting this go for any less than $2,500 only because of the few OEM pieces not being there. These bikes are getting rare and not many around. This one was pretty beat up looks wise, so I decided to refresh it because it does hold a good value. So at $2,500 there's still plenty of value left. Great collector or ride it. I restored it to look period correct to look great and to still be ridden. Its a dirt bike that's what there for. $2,500 obo.. CASH or $2,500 and up in trades. Cars, trucks, Jeeps, Enduro's, 450cc quads, or ask.
