Up for auction is a nice example of theoriginal "sharknose" Harley Davidson: the 1980 FLT Road King. Lessthan 7,000 of these were built by Harley-Davidson in 1980 and the AmericanMetal Foundry (AMF) in 1980. 1980 was a banner year fortechnological changes for Harley, many of which accompanied Harley for severalsubsequent decades. It was the first Harley with a 5-speed transmission andfirst with a redesigned frame to use rubber mounts for the engine. The FLT RoadKing also sports a unique, true dual-exhaust system from the factory. The“sharknose ”fairing is mounted to the frame rather than the handlebars,improving low-speed maneuverability. This bike was ordered with and retains theoptional travel trunk, which itself garnered the owner an unsolicited offer of$1,000 just for the trunk a few years ago. Trunk and saddlebags have HD chromethat still shines. S&S carb recently cleaned, new jets, and adjusted;starts, runs, and idles perfectly. Draws Harley enthusiasts everywhere. Stereodoes not work but have retained the mounting for a newer stereo to beinstalled. Left turn signal does not work--not sure why. Does leak oil . . ..
