Up for sale is my 1980 Yamaha XS850LG Midnight Special, the rare one. I bought this bike back in December with the intention of converting it into a ?standard.? I have most of the stuff to do it in case whoever buys it wants to. The bike was not fast enough for me. I grew out of it fast and I now have an 1100. I don?t need 2 bikes, so this one needs to find a new home.I put 3,000 miles on this bike, it now has 17,000. That is really low for a 32 year old bike. That is less then 600 a year. When I got the bike the first thing I did was to change the engine, middle gearbox, and final drive gearbox oil to full synthetic. I also put on a new oil filter, brake pads (front and rear), heated hand-grips, LED mirrors, new handlebars, reflective rim stripes, and K&N air filters.There are also stainless steel brakes lines and a new master cylinder on the front brake system. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get the last of the air out. It brakes fine and I have been riding it, but the brakes feel a bit squishy. They need to be bled by a professional. I also have a stainless line for the rear brake, but I have not put it on. There is also a small oil leak on the engine. But, it is so slow that is doesn?t even drip off the engine.Due to how old the springs in the front forks were and a leaking seal, I made some modifications to the front suspension. When I got this bike nearly any amount of braking would bottom out the forks. Last week I got feed up, so I took them apart and put in progressive springs and new fork seals. I also filled them up with full synthetic racing fork oil.This bike also has some nice features as stock too. The front forks are pressurized with air, so all you have to do to adjust the ride is change the pressure. The rear suspension has adjustable preload and dampening, which can be adjusted with a large set of pliers in about 5 minutes.The tires on this bike are Pirelli Sport Demons. They are the only sporty tires you can get for a 19in. front rim and a 16in. rear rim. They have 2,000 miles on them and at least 90% of their tread left. They?re practically new.This is a great bike with low miles. I have taken it on long 500 mile trips and short trips around town. It is a do anything kind of bike. It is also good for passengers. As you can see from the pictures, the back seat is very comfortable.Things that come with this bike if you want them: all parts I have changed out, 24 liter (6.3 gallon) ?standard? gas tank, standard seat, standard wheels, Haynes shop manual, stainless steel rear brake line, windshield, and any other small bit associated with this bike.If you are interested email me and we can arrange a meeting.
