1981 BMW R100RS R-Series

Price:
$4,100
Summary:
Used 1981 8,100 miles
Location:
New Haven, CT
Description:

This sensational R100RS was a family bike. My step dad had it in his garage in Michigan for over 20 years. You will be hard pushed to discover another R of this vintage, with hardly even break-in mileage on it. 8,100 ORIGINAL MILES !! This is an uncommon find. The bike was brought from Michigan to CT in early 2012. Had not run in at least 10 years. We had it running in minutes. It's an absolute time capsule of the greatness of BMW machinery. Bringing this bike back to life and appeal, was a labor of love. We took the bike to the frame and engine. An intense cleaning ensued, followed by the buildup. All BMW OEM parts were utilized in the restoration, save for the Whispertone exhaust system, that is the only after-market product on the bike. The smoke windscreen is initial, and definitely scrape complimentary. Remarkable even to me, that this windscreen looks the many ways it does. The new paint job, is an incredible OEM charcoal with small flake, as found on the current BMW R1200. The color is great. The paint was done by Curt at Colorworks in Keller Texas. For several years, Curt was the exclusive BMW paint guy for Perry's BMW (a populared restoration store) in Fort Worth. The paint is a 10 from 10. There is not a dent, ding or scratch anywhere. The wheels are sporting brand name brand-new Metzler Lazertech tires. The front fork boots are original, and think me, the rubber is still supple, and treated to remain so. Bike has the initial tire pump, still mounted below the seat rails. Mechanically, this bike is a 10 of 10. It is fast, starts quickly, runs perfect. Absolutely nothing less. BMW used this R series as its test bed for aerodynamic wind tunnel screening. One trip, and you'll feel why they struck a crowning achievement with the R100RS. It is merely among the most steady bikes, at speed, you will certainly ever ride. Duration. If you've ridden one with the complete fairing bundle, you understand precisely what I imply. Below, you will find a breakdown of what was done to this amazing machine, by myself, and my mechanic. Care was taken to keep everything initial parts, once more, with the exception of the Whispertone exhaust system.81 R100RS restoration: Removed all bodywork and sent out for paintPowder coat valve coversRemoved front wheel and examined front brake rotors for straightness and put on patterns.Rebuilt front brake calipers and changed brake pads in both calipers.Removed cleaned and flushed front brake lines and distribution block.Replaced front brake light switch.Filled and bled front brake system.Rebuilt front forks made use of brand-new fork seals, dust covers and refilled with silkolene 10 weight fork oil.Removed, extensively cleaned and examined steering head bearings and re-greased.
