1981 Kawasaki KZ1100A1 26,400 miles I am the third owner. The first owner kept it for 6 months. The second owner had it over 40 years. It was running, showed signs of neglect, but was complete. I carried out a total restoration, no expense spared, retaining almost all the original parts where able. The bike was stripped to the frame. All black parts were powder coated. Cost $1911 including wheel bearings and new tires.The engine was dismantled and vapor blasted. Cost $310Various aluminum parts were highly polished. Cost $250During engine re-assembly the cylinders were honed and new piston rings added. Cost $150Valves lapped. New seals. All gaskets, seals, O-rings were replaced.Wheels were sand-blasted, then powder-coated satin black and the rims highly polished.Both brake master-cylinders were honed and sleeved. Cost $233All fasteners nickel plated. Cost $330Tank, side panels and mudguards re-painted. Cost $1500All chrome re-finished by Spacecoast Plating. Cost $3599. Spacecoast is a seriously high-end chrome plating business. The exhaust system (mufflers, headers and cross-pipes) were re-chromed. Nobody makes a pattern system for these bikes yet. All chrome is show-ready.OEM fuel-gauge sender unit replaced with NOS. These all fail and are very hard to find. $320These are the big money items. The total cost of the project was $12,983.90.Carbs rebuilt, fuel levels set.The only non-standard item is the handlebars. The originals are re-chromed and come with the bike. The bike handles better with Euro-style bars.The hot compression numbers are 148/145/140/150psi.The bike has run for 325 miles. Oil and filter changed again at 250 miles. Valve clearances re-checked and head re-torqued. All filters, spark plugs, oil is brand new. The only issue is the rpm needle jumps around a little under acceleraion, but steadies itself at cruise.I have hundreds of photos of the rebuild and lots of receipts.Clear title, but Florida does not transfer mileage on this era bikes, so the odometer shows "EXEMPT". I have no reason to believe the miles are incorrect.No, it isn’t a collector’s item. Yet. But the way things are going in the Japanese Superbikes 1970-1980s market it will only increase in value.Feel free to ask any questions.Enjoy the photos. I have video of a cold start.
