Four-valve heads and finned cylinders are liquid cooled for optimum thermal control. Concealed automatic cam chain tensioners maintain the engine's clean lines, while concurrently permitting maintenance-free, exact cam timing. A spin-on oil filter likewise assists keep maintenance at a minimum. A 36mm Keihin carburetor geared up with an accelerator pump gives the Vulcan 800 Classic its fast throttle response. To take advantage of the engine's broad torque curve, the five-speed transmission boosts the strong acceleration and develops an unwinded engine rate at highway speeds. The transmission also includes Kawasaki's unique Positive Neutral Finder, which streamlines finding neutral while at a grinding halt.
